UK Commando and Italian Troops

Finished some UK Commando and Italian troops.  I already have a bunch of British special forces, SAS/SBS types, and German Para and Brandenburger type troops.  These will all be used for battles on Rhodes and Leros and other islands in the Aegean Sea.   Not a lot written about the British Offensive and German counter-offensive but one good book is "Churchill's Folly" by Anthony Rogers.

USA WWII Heavy Weapons

Worked on some USA machine gun and mortar troops.  Figs are Battlehonors 25's.  I sure could do with a game of FUBAR!  the troops are ready to go.

Cornfields

In anticipation of non-remote wargaming, I'm working on some terrain features for the tabletop.  These two shots show fences I made along with a cornfield.  The corn stalks are 2"  O scale corn stalks are from JTT, trimmed just a little bit and pushed into drill holes in MDF.  The JTT stalks are priced around $12 for either 28 or 32 (can't remember) so that's not too bad.  Minis are 28mm for scale.

King's German Legion 2nd Light Battalion

Finished up the 2nd Light Battalion KGL.  Pretty much the same as the 1st Light, though sources said they had darker uniforms so I did that.  Not sure how well that shows in the photos.  Sources also identified other minor uniform differences between the 1st and 2nd Light but as I'm using the same sculpts I didn't make those distinctions.

King's German Legion 1st Light Battalion

Adding to the KGL, here's the 1st Light Battalion.

First pic is the "formed up" battalion and the second pic is the battalion on skirmish bases.

Just off the painting table, a set of French ADC's.  AB minis from Eureka.

British Generals

Below are some British generals for the Peninsular Army.  Uxbridge, in the dark blue cavalry uniform is decked out for Waterloo, but the others can pass for the Peninsula.  Collars and cuffs are a dk blue but may need to lighten that a bit.  Ignore the bases, I haven't decided if I want to base these individually or with ADC's

Horse Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard

"Heads up, gentlemen, these are bullets, not turds". Colonel Louis Lepic harangues the Grenadiers à Cheval as they are forming for a charge under intense fire at the Battle of Eylau in 1807. Painting by Édouard Detaille at the Chantilly Museum.

And below are my impression of the Grenadiers à Cheval of the Imperial Guard.  Figs are 18mm AB's.

Spanish Dragoons Ready for Action!

Finished up some Spanish Dragoons for action in the Iberian Peninsula.  Figs are Blue Moon.  Pretty good second to AB Figures.  Cast bases are a little larger than necessary, riders need a bit of filing to sit on horses but detail and proportions are good.

More Vietnam Stuff for Jim

Cranked out some more USA Vietnam vehicles and infantry for Jim.  The NVA is in for some hard times I fear . . .

Armored Quad .50 gun trucks, truck with .50, plain old trucks, M113 ACAV, M60's and M551's along with some heavy weapons personnel.  Minis are Old Glory except the M551's which are FoW.

Figures for Nemesis Board Game

Finished up a job painting Nemesis figures.  Human figures were painted "conventionally," black prime, base colors, highlight, detail, finish.  The aliens however were done a bit differently.  Black prime to start, then a purple ink airbrush.  Armor/Bones/Crystals were given a chrome highlight and then I airbrushed a blend of transparent colors over the chrome highlight to get the chromatic turquoise effect.  I got the idea from a youtube by "The Grimy Painter."  Overall I think it gives a menacing dark glow to the aliens without covering them in shadows.

Well That's Sad . . .

John Prine was always a top favorite songwriter and singer.  Sad to see his passing but he left us with a lot of great tunes about the joys and pains of life.  Sad.  Not too late for others to discover his legacy.

28mm ACW Confederates

Latest batch of 40 Sash and Saber Confederates coming off the painting table and ready for basing.

I've been looking at ACW rules to use with the new figs.  Fire and Fury Regimental would work well, as would On To Richmond!  OTR is slightly simpler than FnF and may resolve multi-division battles quicker.  Looking forward to giving it a try with the new figs in 2020.

More Vehicles for Jim

Painting up some modern MRAP vehicles for Jim and an M5 Stuart.  Supposedly these vehicles are both 25/28mm size.  The MRAP trucks are huge (think tractor trailer rig) but the Stuart may be a little undersized.  Dunno, need to see them side by side!

And here are some finish shots of the vehicles plus some NVA infantry.  I included a 25mm Soviet mini from Eureka as a reference to size.  The MRAP is a beast, no wonder it has a ladder for climbing in.

28mm ACW USVA Figs

Painted and based more 28mm ACW figs.  US Volunteers this time.  Figs by Sash and Saber, Flags by Flag Dude.

Organizing Collections with "Dave's Baggage Train" Trays

I purchased trays and inserts from "Dave's Baggage Train" and have been organizing collections into the trays.  The 1" deep trays with 1" sorting inserts work well for Command Decision and other things based on 3/4" and 1" bases.  The 2" Deep trays with 40mm inserts work well for 15mm Medieval armies that are on 40mm bases and have long spears and flags.  The 3" deep trays work for 28mm figs with flags and long spears.  Recommend all their products.

3" Tray with magnetic bottom insert; 28mm minis

3" tray with magnetic bottom insert; 15mm minis

1" tray with 1" insert; 15mm figs on 3/4" bases

2" tray with 40mm insert; 15mm figs on 40mm bases

Finished Big Order of Minis

Scott has kept me busy since November.  By my incomplete count I have assembled and painted
over two dozen German vehicles (many with two-color camo), over two dozen US vehicles, numerous US and German guns; infantry, command, machine guns, mortars, bazooka/panzerfaust for both forces.  Probably should have taken pictures as I went . . .
