Heavy Support for WWII Minis

Just finished some German 15cm heavy artillery along with 15cm Infantry Gun and 5cm PAK.  And some Soviet 160mm mortars.  The infantry on snow bases in the pic are Germans in greatcoats armed with Russian SMGs (courtesy Peter Pig minis).   these are all 15mm sized minis.  Thanks to Jim for printing the 15cm heavy artillery.

The little shiny objects in the corners of the bases are magnets I use to hold any status markers.  For Rapid Fire rules, they aren't really needed but I also use the stands in operational level games where a stand can be a battalion or regiment.  I usually dull down the shiny magnets with a black or brown Sharpie marker.

Baden 4th Regiment for the German Division

Here is the Baden 4th Regiment with two battalions (white/red facings) along with Baden artillery battery

The Baden 4th served with the French armies in Spain.  At Talavera, it fought as part of the German division.

A Snowy Scene

These are some 15mm Germans in greatcoats in the snow.  Peter Pig figs.  "Snow" is created by gluing minis to base, allow to set, apply Woodland Scenics Flex Paste, allow to set, apply watered down white glue and drop on Woodland Scenics Soft Flake Snow.  Viola.

Fallschirmjager Regiment Project

I've been meaning to create a German para Regiment and since a friend, Jake Strangeway, is putting together a large Battle for Crete project for Historicon 2012, I thought I'd start my project and use the regiment in the Battle for Crete.

15mm Quality Castings minis arrived today so I've started filing the buggers, gluing them on pospsicle sticks and priming.   Color scheme will be green-grey smock and field grey trousers and helmet.  Pictures as I get some finished.

As of the 22nd, I have about a 1/3rd of the regiment painted and some elements based.  Things are progressing well.

Playing Around with a New Camera

So my wife the photographer got a new Canon Rebel T2 and I inherited her old Rebel T1.  Still a big jump up for me.  I took first set of photos with the new camera.  Much better I think.  The first photo uses the standard 18-55mm lens and the rest use a 60mm macro lens.  I like that macro lens.  Unfortunately, it was a loaner and I need to buy my own if I want to use it regularly.  Given the large 10+Meg picture sizes, I dropped them all to 640x480 pixels before uploading to this site, so they may lose something on zoom, but in the original photo I can zoom and crop and still have very good resolution.  And it looks like I need to adjust the white balance further on some of the images.

Miniatures are 15mm Battle Honors tanks and Resistant Rooster 15mm (really about 18mm) Fallschirmjager.

15mm WWII German Flak Vehicles

It would seem the Germans managed to stick flak weapons on every vehicle bigger than a motorcycle.  Here is a sampling.  The vehicles are from Battlefront except the 2cm SdKfz 10 which is Quality Castings/Battle Honors/Old Glory 15/19th Century Miniatures (whew!).

15mm Fallschirmjager

Here is a side by side shot of Peter Pig and my recent Resistant Rooster German Paras.  The Roosters are noticeably larger even with the thinner base they are on.  The Paras look ok against a 15mm vehicle, but I don't think I would field the Roosters with my other 15mm collection (largely Battle Honors, Peter Pig, and Old Glory).  I'll sell these painted paras at a flea market some time along with the unpainted bags.

15mm German Fallschirmjager in the Works

Picked up some Resistant Rooster 15mm Fallschirmjager from Scale Creep Miniatures a few weeks ago.  The picture shows them with the base coat on and a brown wash.  Next I add light shading and camo pattern (Luftwaffe Splinter), then highlight, then matte varnish.

I'll base these for Command Decision and should have some final pictures in a couple weeks.  And I've got a few more bags to go!

I generally have avoided the Resistant Rooster miniatures due to their slightly larger size compared to my Battle Honors and Peter Pig 15mm figures.  But the miniatures are good castings, nothing wrong with their quality and price, and I'll keep them if the fit in ok with my other minis.  Otherwise, they will be sold.  Guess I better make up my mind before I base them.
